Forbidden Fruit: Community-First Branding, Spatial Design & Sustainability Consulting
Client Background: In the heart of a lively tourist town, Forbidden Fruit, a unique healthy smoothie bowl cafe, emerged as a refreshing oasis. Beyond serving nutritious and delicious options, their goal was to redefine the community's perception of well-being. leMEDIA embarked on this journey from concept to reality, aiming to establish a standout brand and community hub.
The Challenge: In a town known for its vibrant nightlife, Forbidden Fruit sought to be an alternative - a haven for those seeking a healthier, more wholesome experience. The challenge was twofold: to create a brand that embodied not only health and well-being but also a deep connection between the residents and tourists.
Spatial Design + Interior Brand Identity: Our vision for Forbidden Fruit's interior was aimed at providing guests with an escape from the bustling energy of the town. We designed every facet of the cafe with this objective in mind. Our choice of a black and white color scheme for the walls and menu colors, in combination with the warm, natural wood furnishings, created an ambiance that was simultaneously cozy and sophisticated. In a community-driven gesture, we designed a convertible pool table cover to create a communal table during the day, fostering social interactions and a co-working space. This maximized space but also underscored our commitment to creating a dynamic community hub.
Brand Development + Visual Marketing Design: Our team took an all-encompassing approach to forge Forbidden Fruit's brand identity, ensuring that it harmoniously aligned with the cafe's physical space. The carefully selected color palette in the cafe was translated seamlessly into the marketing materials, creating a visual continuity that immediately resonates with patrons. We crafted a distinctive brand voice that echoed the cafe's strong community orientation. This welcoming and inclusive ethos threads through the brand identity on social media and event promotions. The result is a brand that effortlessly bridges the gap between the physical and digital realms, creating a powerful and memorable brand experience.
Holistic Digital Engagement: leMEDIA played a multifaceted role in developing Forbidden Fruit's digital presence. Our expertly crafted social media content bridged the gap between the online and physical community, while our user-friendly online menu design ensured seamless delivery and to-go services. We actively manage Google reviews, turning feedback into actionable insights, and our strategic paid social media campaigns expanded brand reach and engagement. The result? A robust, harmonious digital ecosystem that propelled Forbidden Fruit's brand visibility to over 250,000 Google Business profile impressions in less than a year!
Local Impact + Sustainability: We demonstrated our dedication to sustainability by providing consulting services to Forbidden Fruit’s produce and dry ingredients sourcing strategy. Using leMEDIA’s "profitability, people, and planet" green business approach, we identified high-quality, organic fresh produce from local farmers, an effort that not only elevated the quality of their menu, reduced overhead costs, and continues to bolster the local economy. By supporting local farmers and other local businesses, we showcased the profound impact a sustainable approach can have on both a business and its community.
Eco-Friendly Initiative: To further engage with the community, we encouraged Forbidden Fruit to invest in a bicycle blender refurbished by a local non-profit. This human-powered, blender serves as an eco-friendly option for guests to reduce their environmental impact. It also provides the restaurant with the means to stay open during electricity outages, a common occurrence in the small Guatemalan lake town. Beyond the climate-positive impact of the bike, it naturally became an attraction for tourists, earning organic reach beyond measure on social media as a result.
leMEDIA took Forbidden Fruit from what could have been a mere cafe into a cherished oasis. It embodied more than just health; it embraced nature, community, local economic impact, and sustainable practices. Our impactful work on the brand design, spatial design, marketing, and green business strategy efforts played a pivotal role in crafting Forbidden Fruit's identity and success.
